Atlantic and medio-European collinar and submontane forests of Fraxinus excelsior, Acer pseudoplatanus, Acer platanoides, Ulmus glabra, Tilia platyphyllos, Fagus sylvatica, Quercus robur, on unstable scree or colluvions? of abrupt, shady and humid slopes, with abundant ferns, characterized by the presence of the ecological group of Asplenium scolopendrium, Mercurialis perennis.They are characteristic of the hills, mountains and plateaux associated with the Hercynian ranges, the Jura, the Northern Carpathians, the Alps, the hills of the Pannonic plain, within the range of the Fagion medio-europaeum, irradiating north into the Germano-Baltic lowlands, east to Lithuania. Sub-Atlantic forests of calcareous hills of the Paris Basin, of Burgundy, of the Plateau de Langres, somewhat intermediate between these formations and those of 41.45 are included, in view of their restriction to situations of cool microclimates without marked summer drought, in particular, north-facing slopes and the lack of thermophilous species characteristic of the Tilenion platiphylli.

Mozgó törmeléken vagy meredek, árnyas és nedves lejtőhordalékon kialakult atlantikus vagy közép-európai, kollin és szubmontán Fraxinus excelsior, Acer pseudoplatanus, Acer platanoides, Ulmus glabra, Tilia platyphyllos, Fagus sylvatica, Quercus robur erdők sok páfránnyal, melyeket az Asplenium scolopendrium és a Mercurialis perennis ökológiai csoportja jelenléte jellemez. Jellemzőek a herciniai hegyek dombjain, hegyein és fennsíkjain, a Jurában, az Északi-Kárpátokban, az Alpokban és a Kárpát-medence dombjain a Fagion medio-europaeum zónájában, északon a Germán-Lengyel-alföldig, keleten Litvániáig hatolnak. Ide értendők a Párizsi-medence mészkődombjain, Burgundiában és a Langres-fennsíkon e formáció és a 41.45 alatt tárgyalt között részben átmenetet képező szubatlantikus erdői, mivel kifejezetten számottevő nyári szárazság nélküli, hűvös mikroklímájú helyeken fordulnak elő, elsősorban az északi lejtőkön, valamint a számos melegkedvelő Tilenion platyphylli faj előfordulása miatt.
