Indigenous Pinus sylvestris forests of the lowlands of nemoral Europe, south of the main, boreal and boreo-nemoral, non-Alpigenous, area of continuous natural lowland occurrence of Picea abies, of adjacent wooded steppe regions, and of siliceous soils of the montane or collinar levels of the central European Hercynian ranges and the eastern Alpine system.

Őshonos Pinus sylvestris-erdők az európai síksági erdőövezetben, a Picea abies természetes síksági, boreális vagy boreo-nemorális, nem alpesi elterjedési területétől délre eső területeivel szomszédos erdőssztyepp-övezetben valamint a Keleti-Alpok és a közép-európai herciniai hegyvidék montán vagy kollin zónájának szilikátos talajú élőhelyein.
